Yemeni War in a Nutshell

News has come in of a Houthi  rebels missile attack on Saudi Arabia airport in the south of the country.

 Saudi  Arabia and United Arab Emirates coalition are fighting in Yemen at the request of the exiled Yemeni government who asked for their help to drive out the Houthis.   The Houthis took control in Yemen when fuel subsidies were removed in 2014.    Ironically, the Houthis a year later removed the subsidies themselves.

The Houthis have a kinship with Hezbollah and Iran who provide guns, missiles and military training.

The slogan of the Houthis Rebels is God is Great, Death to America, Death to Israel, Curse Jews and Victory to Islam.

The Hothis oppose Saudi Arabia and their religion.  This is a Sunni v Shia  war.  In essence, a religious war.    Sunni gained prominence in Saudi Arabia andas a result Houthis militarised against Riyadh and its allies.  Houthis are  mostly Shia.

  Iran on one side of the Strait, Saudi Arabia on the other.   The US Navy patrol the Strait of Hormuz.

The Houthis control one Red Sea Port.  There is supposed to be an agreement that they do not impede shipping.    Oil tankers are still fired upon.

The forgotten war of the Yemen is not to be so forgotten about in the future although I have to say I last wrote about in almost 12 months ago and it has managed to be mostly forgotten about during that time.
