Nicolas Cage is a married man again, having wed Riko Shibata last month at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas, Page Six can confirm.
“It’s true, and we are very happy,” the actor said in a statement.
The couple wed February 16 in a small ceremony, a date chosen to honor the birthday of the groom’s late father, according to Cage’s statement.
Riko wore a handmade bridal kimono from Kyoto; Cage’s tux was by Tom Ford. The couple exchanged traditional Catholic and Shinto vows with readings of Walt Whitman poetry and Japanese haiku “sprinkled in.”
Cage’s ex-wife Alice Kim — with whom the actor is still on good terms — joined the couple to celebrate afterward, along with Kim and Cage’s son Kal.
Cage and Riko met in Shiga, Japan, and have been together since shortly after the dissolution of Cage’s last marriage, to Erika Koike — which lasted for four days in 2019.
Shortly before the pandemic shut down New York in March 2020, Cage and Riko were spotted on a date at Tavern on the Green, where they “didn’t talk much” but made sure to “drink lavishly,” before taking a carriage ride around Central Park, having already taken in the Museum of Natural History earlier in the week.
According to the Daily Mail, Cage, who proposed via FaceTime and FedExed Riko’s ring to Japan, announced their engagement in August on his brother Marc Coppola’s radio show.
“She left New York and went back to Kyoto, Japan, and I went back to Nevada and I haven’t seen her for six months,” he told Marc. “We’re really happy together and we’re really excited to spend that time together so I finally just said, ”Look, I wanna marry you” and we got engaged on FaceTime.”
At 26, Riko is four years younger than the 57-year-old Cage’s first son Weston. It’s her first marriage.
